Looking towards old and new Sydney, (from NAS), 20 x 25, oil on board. Gemma Rose Brook
Gemma Rose Brook is an Australian painter whose emotive, on-location work explores a hypersensitive and embodied experience of landscape, alongside our emotional narratives held within objects and place. Working from life, her bold compositions, expressive mark-making, and distinctive palette draw on female modernist and expressionist traditions that inform her contemporary gaze. Her practice is also shaped personal experiences of connecting to diverse landscapes and a continued interest in the psychosocial dimensions of environment. Brook’s work has been exhibited and collected nationally, with recognition including selection for the Paddington Art Prize, the Fleurieu Biennale, and a residency at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice.
