Contributing authors include Natasha Bullock, Alexie Glass-Kantor, Philip Brophy, Justin Clemens, Johanna Featherstone, Anthony Gardener, Lily Hibberd, Glen Ideger-Pilkington, Mami Kataoka, Raimundas Malasaukas, Adrian Martin, Jennifer McMahon and Christos Tsiolkas.

225 x 285 mm, 356 pages.

ISBN 978 1 921668 11 1

The exhibition publication is conceived as an offering, integral yet autonomous object that represents eleven speculative approaches to the ideas presented by the art and the exhibition. This full colour publication mirrors the structure of the exhibition yet is not designed as a true representation. By giving ample scope and breadth to reproductions and by dedicating pages to the creation of original artwork or ancillary research material, this publication was developed with the artist's visual practices at the forefront of our minds.

Also available in a limited edition, slip case with inset canvas and gold blocking

144 pp, 214 colour illus., 10 sepia illus., 2 black & white illus.

This book celebrates the work of Hans Heysen, South Australia’s best-known artist. In addition to his well-known landscapes that celebrate the monumentality of the Australian gum tree, the book reappraises his lesser-known work, tracing its development from his early student days painting in Europe between 1899 and 1903. The book includes little-known works from this remarkable period, including images of Paris and Venice. It also includes many paintings of heroic gums, but also extends to other subject areas, such as toilers of the land, quarries, the River Murray, the South Coast and Pewsey Vale, and also portraits and still lifes. Another focus of the book is Heysen’s revelation from 1926 onwards of barren landscapes and ancient mountain forms in the Flinders Ranges.

Satchi Gallery in Adelaide: British Art Now is now sold out

Saatchi Gallery in Adelaide: British Art Now

Patricia Ellis (Saatchi Gallery, London), Jane Messenger & Maria Zagala (Art Gallery of South Australia, Adelaide)

280 x 240 mm, 256 pages, full colour throughout, 166 illustrations

ISBN 978-1-921668-10-4

Saatchi Gallery in Adelaide: British Art Now brings together the audacious best of contemporary art straight from London’s internationally acclaimed Saatchi Gallery – arguably the biggest influence on contemporary British art over the past 25 years. It features groundbreaking works that challenge conventional artistic sensibilities, created by more than forty of the new generation of daring British contemporary artists.

Also featured with Saatchi Gallery in Adelaide is Tracey Emin’s controversial My Bed, one of the most iconic works of art of the twentieth century. My Bed sparked a furore as a Turner Prize nomination in 1999 for its confessional revelations of the artist’s sexual exploits and self-destructive lifestyle and became a signifier for the ‘shock’ strategies of the YBAs.

The Golden Journey cover

The Golden Journey: Japanese Art from Australian Collection

James Bennett and Amy Reigle Newland (2009)

ISBN 0 7308 3047 0 paperback

ISBN 0 7308 3039 X hardback

348 pp, 552 colour illus., 8 b&w illus.

This major book explores the astonishingly rich heritage of Japanese art, from prehistoric times until Japan opened its doors to the West at the commencement of the Meiji period (1868–1912). Lavishly illustrated it reveals the rich heritage of Japanese art held in Australia’s major public and private collections. Serene Buddhist sculptures, spectacular painted screens, miniature netsuke talismans, colourful Ukiyo-e images of the ‘floating world’, costumes, masks, armour and flamboyant export art created for Australia’s late nineteenth-century international exhibitions are all included in celebration of the profound lyricism and sophisticated eloquence of Japanese aesthetics.
