RAMSAY ART PRIZE
27 May-27 August 2017
Presented by the James & Diana Ramsay Foundation
The Ramsay Art Prize changes the way we view artists under 40 and value their work in the canon of contemporary art.
Supported by the James & Diana Ramsay Foundation in perpetuity, the $100,000 acquisitive prize will be awarded to one of the twenty-one selected finalists in 2017. They are:
Tony Albert (NSW), Khadim Ali (NSW), Jacobus Capone (WA), Celeste Chandler (VIC), Sarah Contos (NSW), Georgina Cue (VIC), Keg de Souza (NSW), Julie Fragar (QLD), Teelah George (WA), Natalya Hughes (NSW), Trent Jansen (NSW), Ash Keating (VIC), Owen Leong (NSW), Vincent Namatjira (SA), Joey Nganjmirra (NT), Baden Pailthorpe (NSW), Clare Peake (WA), Jason Phu (NSW), Rebecca Selleck (ACT), James Tylor (SA) and Justine Varga (NSW).
The Ramsay Art Prize invites submissions from Australian contemporary artists under 40 working in any medium. Held every two years and presented by the James & Diana Ramsay Foundation, the Ramsay Art Prize is an ongoing acquisitive prize. Finalists are selected by an international judging panel. The selected works are included in a major exhibition at the Art Gallery of South Australia.
The 2017 Ramsay Art Prize finalist exhibition will be complemented with a People’s Choice Prize supported by sponsor Lipman Karas. The People’s Choice Prize is a non-acquisitive cash prize of $15,000 chosen by a public vote.
‘Opportunities for artists at pivotal moments in their career have the potential to change the
course of Australian art.’
