WALL LABEL: Hans Heysen: The Creative Journey, 1992
This expressive pen and ink sketch appears to have been made rapidly, perhaps on the spot, capturing an impression of a moment. At one time the drawing has been carefully folded and the crease lines neatly divide it into eight sections. This may have formed a grid for transferring the main forms of the drawing onto the canvas for the oil composition.
