Radiance: Streetscapes in Photography 27 July - 27 September 2007 Free entry This selection from the Art Gallery of South Australia's photography collection traces an aesthetic sensibility carried by migrants and refugees from Europe to the new worlds of America and Australia and by expatriates travelling in the other direction. These photographers engage with the formal qualities of signage and advertising in streetscapes. The photographs capture an urban view. Although the images seem depopulated, the presence of people is everywhere - in architecture and graffiti - the places people make and the things left behind. Some works explore photography as a form of social commentary with empathy for those who have lived with hardship, poverty and dislocation. Others register hope and simple pleasure in what is. The display includes the works of Henri Cartier-Bresson, Brassaï, Walker Evans, Aaron Siskind, Weegee, and Australians Wolfgang Sievers, Mark Strizic, Grant Mudford and Eric Thake. |

| M.J.M. Carter Collection: The Joy of Giving 10 November 2006 4 February 2007 Max Carter AO is one of the Art Gallery of South Australias most significant benefactors. Gifts from his collection have enhanced the Gallerys holdings of British and Asian art, and have dramatically transformed the Gallerys colonial Australian art collection to make it one of the most outstanding and most representative such collection in the country. Among his many gifts are important colonial Australian works by John Glover, Eugene von Guérard, S.T. Gill and Nicolas Chevalier. This exhibition, which is mounted in honour of Mr Carters 80th Birthday, brings together many of the major gifts from the M.J.M. Carter Collection, revealing the full extent of his generosity over four decades. Entry fees apply |

| 1970s Conceptual Art on display until 4 February 2007 in Gallery 8 The display focuses on international and Australian conceptual art. It traces several threads associated with the conceptual art movement; the role of language in the interpretation of works of art in Ian Burn's Systematically altered photographs...1968, the documentation of performance based work in Hamish Fulton's Wheeldale Moor 1977 and Stelarc's Event for Stretched Skin, Tokyo 1974; and the aesthetics of the archive in the work of Robert Rooney, Jan Dibbets and Les Levine. |

| Yingarti Jilamara: The Art of the Tiwi Islands 15 September 2006 28 January 2007 This exhibition showcases the breadth and dynamism of art of the Tiwi Islands over time. It includes recent and historical works from the 1960s and 1970s and comprises textiles, prints, sculpture, painting and decorative arts. The Most Delightful Thing on Earth: The Art of Gladys Reynell was a member of the famous South Australian family which established Reynella Winery, but it was her significant artistic contributions for which she is remembered. Reynell was South Australias first studio potter and was among the first to introduce Europes Modernist ethos into Australian craft. This exhibition, which will be the first retrospective of her work, will present her pottery, paintings, linocuts and sketches and is timed to mark the 50th anniversary of her death. |

| Since its
inception in 1990 the Art Gallery of South Australia's Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art
has become Australia's most important survey exhibition of contemporary Australian visual
art. In 2002 it will explore some of the issues at the heart of Australian society and
culture, such as genetic engineering, DNA testing, environmental sustainability,
artificial intelligence, human cloning and genetically modified foods. Raising significant
moral and philosophical dilemmas, and prompting grassroots action world-wide, today's
scientific issues affect us all. The 2002 Biennial will present a dynamic range of
artistic responses to some of these concerns. Supported by the Visual Arts / Craft Fund and New Media Arts Fund of the Australia Council and the Adelaide Festival website |
